  1. Stay away from Benadryl and unisom…. both of these drugs block acetylcholine and that’s not a good thing if you’re trying to avoid getting dementia or Alzheimer’s… You want something that’s not anticholinergic….doxepin is a histamine blocker but at the recommended 3 to 6 mg it does not block acetylcholine, but it will cause drowsiness like Unisom and Benadryl. You would have to talk to your doctor to get a prescription for it, I don’t have prescription coverage and 6 mg 30 day dose was $160 something dollars… I called another pharmacy(Meijers) and they made a liquid form of it for $11 a month… I’ve had so so results with it, but I am also trying to kick the Unisom habit which I had been taking nightly for probably 5 to 6 years. I’m three weeks in and the rebound insomnia has decreased to the point of almost nonexistent… I will never take Unisom or Benadryl again long-term

  2. Trazadone. Works. Been prescribed by Dr’s for decades. Diphenhydramine is dangerous for the 60+ crowd. Melatonin is useless.
